Catherine Whitelock is the talented lady behind the quilting machine!
“Grandmas Garden”, a quilt with hundreds of hexagons, was Catherine’s first quilt. Simply displayed on her bed, it caught the eye of friends and family who saw and appreciated the detail, effort and beauty and simply wanted one of their own!
And so, in 1991 with her first quilt, “Grandmas Garden”, Quilts by Catherine began!
As a born, bred and proud Australian, Catherine’s’ life journey has included nursing where she enjoyed caring for others, running a successful conference venue in Paramatta, and finally with 4 grown up children and 6 beautiful grandchildren she decided to make quilting her full-time passion!
Her boutique studio in NSW, Sydney is where she designs cuts and sews her magical creations.
Part of her “team” is “Peggy”, her faithful treadle Singer sewing machine. (PS: A treadle is a foot peddle powered sewing machine!). An heirloom in itself, her 1940’s faithful and charming “Peggy” was her Mums. It was passed down to Catherine in the early 1980’s and is still as reliable now as it was all those years ago!
Inspired by Australiana fauna and flora, Aboriginal art, and popular designs and characters ranging from Beatrix Potter to Star Wars, allows Catherine to continually create quilts that are beautiful, brilliant and breath-taking.
Using the highest quality materials, supporting local businesses and putting back into the community, Quilts by Catherine is renowned for being the quilter of choice.
Catherine’s greatest joy is witnessing the joy, excitement and delight as her beautiful quilts are viewed, purchased and gifted by her customers. Knowing that each and every quilt is truly made with love is what sets Catherine’s bespoke quilts apart.
Intricate, delicate and detailed, created and crafted with love, and 100% Australian made is what encompasses every item that is made, displayed and sold by “Quilts by Catherine”.
